Charter Council Biographies

Trish Veal
Parent Member
This is my first year as a council member. I have been a home school parent since 1989. CORE has provided me with opportunities with my youngest child that I didn’t have as a teaching parent on my own. Having community resources and support that is provided through CORE has been a grand blessing for me with our unpredictable lifestyle.

I love being a Personalized Learning Teacher because I am able to offer each parent and student individual guidance and curriculum to meet his or her needs and circumstances.

Why do you love teaching, or working for CORE? This is my 7th year with CORE and I appreciate it more each year. I believe in the Personalized Learning approach and enjoy both elements - helping parents do a better job teaching their children and personally teaching (mostly high schoolers) at the Marysville Center.

Yuba, Butte, Sutter, Placer and Nevada Counties
I started in education as a parent teaching my own students. At that time I returned to school to become a certificated teacher. Years later I was destined to become an administrator for our charter school. I received my administrative leadership certificate in 2003 and have dedicated my efforts to assisting other parents fulfill their dream to be integrally involved in their own student's education. I feel blessed to be able to serve the needs of the parents and students of CORE.

Parent Member
I am a stay-at-home mom of 4 daughters, ranging in age from 11 down to almost 4, and all of whom I school at home.  I have a background in biology and chemistry.  My husband and I chose to homeschool because we both felt that with our backgrounds we could not only provide a great education for our children, but also get to enjoy the process of their growing and changing first hand.  Being a part of C.O.R.E.'s personalized learning program however has made a great experience even more wonderful.  My daughter's have really appreciated being a part of a school where they can take supplementary classes and get to see and make new friends. As a parent I have appreciated all of the wonderful staff and the resources that C.O.R.E. has to offer my children and me. With all that C.O.R.E. has given my family, I hope that I am able to give back at least a small portion.

Willa Ingleson
Parent Member
Willa Ingelson is the mother of two children: Aline, who is eight and in Grade 4 at CORE Butte Charter; and Alden, (a.k.a. Charlie) who is two.  She received her Bachelor of Arts (Hon.) in Archaeology in 1988, and Bachelor of Laws degree in 1992.  She practiced law, in addition to holding an administrative position and teaching at the University of Calgary, prior to moving to Southern California eleven years ago.  Through her professional career she traveled to Scotland, England, Russia, and several parts of Canada and the U.S.  She has also toured Turkey, China, and Mexico.  She taught both elementary and secondary school in Southern California before moving to Chico five years ago.  Willa’s greatest joy has been having the privilege of staying home full-time with both her children since they were born, and subsequently home-schooling Aline since kindergarten.  In addition to her lifelong interests in archaeology, history, and science, she continues to enjoy traveling which she considers ‘the greatest education of all’

I have spent most of my teaching career working in international school around the world.  It has been a very rewarding and educational experience.  Classes were often small, giving me the opportunity to get to know the students, their families, and the learning styles of each individual. Parents were very appreciative of my efforts, and I loved my job. CORE Butte allows me many of the same opportunities and rewards as working overseas.  I get to know my families well and see the students as individuals, each with his or her unique attributes and needs. I am enthused and infused!! The leadership, collaboration, and organization here is both impressive and supportive. Staff and students are enriched by the technological resources available at CORE Camptonville/CORE Butte.   I’m proud to be part of such a dynamic team.
