There is a very unique reality in the community of personalized learning which encourages everyone to effectively work together for the good of the students in our schools. Being part of this energy and commitment aimed at developing successful students is contagious and of great value to me as a person. I love my involvement with a school where kids can experience learning in many different ways, and consider their futures while staying mindful of their individuality. What more could we ask for?

I love working for CORE. It has been a great job for me with wonderful opportunities and experiences. I enjoy coming to work each day knowing that we have such a positive and supportive staff. It’s truly a great place to be.

Chris Mahurin Chris Mahurin
Area Coordinator Educator
Yuba/Sutter/Placer Counties
Chris is an experienced teacher and a successful administrator in CORE@TCA since 2004.  As a site administrator, he oversees the day-to-day academic and enrichment classes at the Yuba County Center.  He has researched and refined many online and technologically delivered curricula for use in our school.  Mr. Mahurin has also been involved in developing innovative curriculum for another Yuba County charter, aligning the construction activities of the students with the academic state standards.  He was also instrumental in creating the Windsor Oaks Academy, a small and necessary continuation high school.  He is currently completing the Administrative Credential through the AB75 program, funded in part by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Marlene Brenden
Personalized Learning Teacher/High School Counselor
Butte County
I feel like I have found home working with CORE!  I work for a school that honors the whole child.  A place that individualizes instruction so that each student can learn, grow and feel successful.  I began a path of professional growth 15 years ago that lead me to this school.  When I looked at CORE's philosophy, mission statement and curriculum I was amazed at how much of what they offered and believed in, I had studied over the years and incorporated into my own teaching philosophy.  This belief in Personalized Learning and the powerful effect it has on students' and their families have been demonstrated time and time again.  All children can learn and their learning can be enhanced while focusing on their strengths and addressing their individual needs.  I feel privileged to work for such a caring and supportive school.

Reid Luhman
Technology Coordinator
Yuba, Sutter, Butte, Placer and Nevada Counties
I know of no other school so committed to the use of technology in
education. Using educational technology both in our centers and via the
Internet adds one more dimension to the "personalized" in personalized
learning. Wherever our students are, education can come to them.

Jonelle PenaJonelle Pena
Area Coordinator Educator (ACE)
Butte County
I love working for CORE. We have the best opportunities for students in every avenue of scholastics, and options suited to every learning style. It makes our job a joy. Every day we witness students being challenged, taking responsibility for their own learning, and vesting themselvesin the process. Learning becomes relevant to their own interests, and they thrive.
